Rank

Tiger Cubs
Boys in first grade are Tiger Cubs. They and their families work together on various projects to achieve their Tiger Cub Totem and Beads. They also have outings where they go to experience various things around the St. Louis area. These outings are called a łGo and See It˛. This program is less structured and very family oriented. It is intended as an introduction phase into the Cub Scout Program, therefore, they are also invited to be involved in regular pack functions.

Tiger Cubs graduate to Wolf Scouts in the graduation ceremony in May or June.

Wolf Scouts
Boys in second grade are Wolf Scouts. They work on achieving their Wolf badge. The boys work to achieve their Wolf Badge by completing achievements with their families and with their den. As a Wolf scout, the boys work to complete 12 achievements. The achievements are age appropriate and give them exposure to things they have probably not had an opportunity to experience yet. There are few options within the 12 achievements, leaving little room for the boy to make decisions.

After a boy achieves the Wolf Badge, they may complete electives. For every 10 electives they complete, they receive an Arrow Point. The first is gold and all subsequent Arrow Points are silver. They earn Arrow Points until they graduate to a Bear Scout in the graduation ceremony in May or June.

Bear Scouts
Boys in third grade are Bear Scouts. They work on achieving their Bear badge. The boys work to achieve their Bear Badge by completing achievements with their families and with their den. As a Bear scout, the boys work to complete 12 achievements. The achievements are age appropriate and give them exposure to things they have probably not had an opportunity to experience yet. There are more options within the 12 achievements, thus allowing the boys to start to make decisions for themselves as they grow older.

After a boy achieves the Bear Badge, they may complete electives. For every 10 electives they complete, they receive an Arrow Point. The first is gold and all subsequent Arrow Points are silver. They earn Arrow Points until they graduate to a First Year Webelos Scout in the graduation ceremony in May or June.

First Year Webelos Scouts
Boys in fourth grade are first year Webelos (We'll Be Loyal Scouts) Scouts. They work on achieving their Webelos badge. Webelos are in the transition from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts. The boys work to achieve their Webelos Badge by completing activity badges with their Webelos Den Leader in areas that are more exciting and challenging to older boys. As a first year Webelos scout, the boys work to complete several of the 20 activity badges which are grouped into five categories: 1) Physical Skills, 2) Mental Skills, 3) Community, 4) Technology and 5) Outdoor. The first year activities are geared toward non-camping and limited outdoor skills. There are more options, which allow the boys to make decisions for themselves and start to take on some responsibilities.

After a boy achieves the Webelos Badge, they continue to earn activity badges. After earning 4 additional activity badges, they receive the compass point emblem and for each additional 4 activity badges they receive a compass point to pin onto the compass point emblem. They earn activity badges and compass points until they graduate into a Boy Scout Troop at the end of their second year as Webelos Scouts.

Second Year Webelos Scouts
Boys in fifth grade are second year Webelos Scouts. They work on achieving the Arrow of Light. The Arrow of Light is Cub Scouting's highest award and along with the Parvuli Dei Religious Award are the only Cub Scout awards transferable to the Boy Scout uniform. The boys work to achieve the Arrow of Light by working with their Webelos Den Leader and prepare to enter Boy Scouts. As a second year Webelos scout, the boys work to complete several more of the previously mentioned activity badges. The second year activities include camping with Boy Scouts and more outdoor activities. The boys take on more responsibilities which will be needed when they crossover into a Boy Scout troop, where the boys lead the boys.

Second Year Webelos Scouts graduate into a Boy Scout Troop at the Arrow of Light/Crossover ceremony in January.

General Rank Information
Each rank in Cub Scouts has a handbook which is used to guide the boys and their families through the various requirements. All boys, regardless of when they join must first pass the requirements of the Bobcat Badge (except Tiger Cubs). These requirements are outlined in each rank's handbook. The boys have one year to complete the requirements to earn each badge. Once they complete the requirements, the Den Leader notifies the Advancement Coordinator and the badge will be presented at the next Pack Meeting. It is important to remember that even if a boy does not earn the badge for that year, they still graduate to the next level. You cannot flunk Cub Scouts!
